Hi @Benlaw,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer is not printing or copying in black, it is likely due to an issue with the printhead or a software setting. Follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Printhead Cleaning

  • On the printer's control panel:
    1. Go to Setup (wrench icon) > Tools > Clean Printhead.
    2. Let the cleaning cycle complete.
  • Print a test page to see if black ink is now printing.

Note: You might need to run the cleaning cycle multiple times.

2. Check Ink Levels

  • Confirm the black cartridge has sufficient ink. Replace if the level is low or empty.

3. Check for Ink Blockage

  • Inspect the Black Cartridge:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    2. Remove the black cartridge.
    3. Check for clogs or dried ink on the cartridge's nozzles. Gently clean with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Inspect the Printhead:
    1. Check the printhead area for clogs.
    2. Clean gently if needed.

4. Use Diagnostic Tools

  • Run the printer's built-in Print Quality Diagnostic Report:
    • Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report.
    • Check for any black ink issues.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Retry printing.

6. Update or Reinstall Printer Software

  • Ensure you are using the latest drivers for Windows 11:
    • Go to HP's support page for the Officejet 4620.
    • Download and install the latest drivers.
  • Restart your computer and try printing again.

7. Perform a Semi-Full Reset

If the issue persists, perform a semi-full reset:

  • Caution: This resets the printer to factory settings, so you’ll need to reconfigure Wi-Fi and other preferences.
  • To reset:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Disconnect it from the power source.
    3. Press and hold the # and 6 buttons while reconnecting the power.
    4. Release the buttons when the printer powers on.

8. Inspect for Hardware Damage

If none of the above works, the printhead may be faulty. Unfortunately, the printhead in the Officejet 4620 is not user-replaceable, so you may need to contact HP support for service options or consider replacing the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Very frustrating. Now the maintenance program is telling me that the blue ink cartridge is empty even though it is new from the HP online store ‘plus’ it is now saying that one or more cartridges are non HP originals even though they all came from the HP online store.
