Ink Advantage black cartridge HP-678 when inserted in to the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3515 e-All-in-One Printer, it shows "Black Cartridge problem". Even after cleaning the contact points of printer and cartridge it shows the same result. But when the old empty cartridge is inserted there is no problem at all.

Hi @Shammi1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Black Cartridge problem" error message on your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3515 printer could be due to various reasons. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

  • Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that you have removed any protective tape or seals from the new HP 678 black cartridge. Sometimes, these tapes can block the cartridge's contacts, causing issues.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Even though you mentioned cleaning the contact points, try cleaning them again. Use a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab and distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve cartridge problems.
  • Update Firmware: Visit the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Sometimes, updating the firmware can fix compatibility issues.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: A hard reset can sometimes clear error messages. To perform a hard reset, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is turned on, wait for 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord.
  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your printer drivers and software are up to date. You can download the latest drivers and software from the HP website.
  • Try Another Cartridge: If you have access to another HP 678 black cartridge, try inserting it to see if the issue persists. This will help determine whether the problem is with the cartridge itself or the printer.

It's worth noting that sometimes, third-party or refilled cartridges may not work correctly with HP printers, so using genuine HP cartridges is recommended for optimal performance and compatibility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
