Hi @Dpm52,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is printing blank black pages even though the cartridges are new, this usually means the black ink is not reaching the paper properly. This can happen due to clogged printhead nozzles, improper cartridge installation, blocked vents, or an internal ink delivery issue.

Please follow the detailed steps below:

Check the ink cartridges carefully
Open the cartridge access door and remove the black cartridge.
• Make sure all protective tape has been completely removed from the ink nozzles. Even a small piece left behind can block ink flow.
• Inspect the small vent area on top of the cartridge. If it is blocked with adhesive or debris, gently clean it using a pin.
• Reinstall the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Repeat this process for the color cartridge as well, then close the access door.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report
From the printer control panel:
Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report

Check the black section on the report.
• If black text or bars are missing, faded, or blank, that confirms a printhead ink flow issue.
• If the report prints correctly but regular documents are blank, the issue may be driver or software related.

Run the Printhead Cleaning Utility
From the printer control panel:
Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead

Run the cleaning cycle once and print a test page.
If black is still missing, run the cleaning cycle again.
Sometimes 2 to 3 cycles are required to clear dried ink.
Do not exceed multiple back to back cycles without checking results, as excessive cleaning uses a lot of ink.

Perform a Power Reset
Turn the printer on.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and then to the printer.
Turn the printer back on and try printing again.

Check Print Settings on the Computer
When printing:
• Open Printer Properties
• Ensure Paper Type matches the loaded paper
• Try selecting a higher print quality setting
• Make sure “Print in Grayscale” or “Black Ink Only” is selected correctly
