I got an error message the magenta cartridge was missing or broken and the HP all-in-one won't do anything. I installed a new HP Magenta and it worked for a short time but then gave the same error message again even with the new and full magenta cartridge. I got another new magenta cartridge and the same error continues. I did all the HP recommended steps from cleaning all contacts and the print head to no avail. I cleaned all the ribbon cables, sockets, and the circuit board under the print head carriage. If I remove the yellow  cartridge I also get the same error message that now shows trouble for yellow AND magenta. If I install one of my extra magenta cartridges (with the ink hole taped over) in the yellow slot the error changes to indicate there is a problem with the yellow cartridge ONLY and the magenta error clears. The yellow cartridge is oldest. Does the printer shut down when it deems a cartridge has reached it's page count and "must be empty"? Why would it show the error is for the magenta which is actually new and full when it may actually be a problem with the old yellow cartridge? Will a new yellow cartridge resolve all my problems? I appreciate any tips or suggestions.       Tim

Welcome to the HP support community.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you Sandy,

I will await contact from the appropriate HP team. Prior to your reply and desperate to get the 7520 working (the supply crisis has left few new printers available on the west coast) I went to a repair shop. The shop tried yet another new HP Magenta cartridge and  also a new HP yellow cartridge to no avail. They duplicated my test putting a magenta cartridge in the yellow slot (with the ink outlet taped over) which cleared the Magenta error and brought up just a yellow error (since a Magenta cartridge was in the yellow slot). The shop was amazed to see that happen but had no idea what is wrong with the printer.  It seems it is not a cartridge problem despite the error codes saying it is.                          Tim
