This error message started today without any activity from me. I purchased a new cartridge but that did not work. After reading other posts, I removed all cartridges, cleaned the contact points, did a hard restart, etc, but nothing works.

Hi @neumanlaw,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "One or more cartridges are missing or damaged" error with inkjet printers and can stem from various causes. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem:
1. Verify the Cartridges
- Ensure that all cartridges are genuine HP cartridges compatible with your OfficeJet Pro 9018e.
- Check that they are correctly installed in their respective slots.
2. Inspect the Cartridges
- Remove all cartridges and inspect them for any damage, especially around the contact points and nozzles.
- Gently clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
3. Inspect the Cartridge Slots
- Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
- Examine the interior of the cartridge slots for any debris or ink buildup.
- Clean the printer’s cartridge contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth.
4. Restart the Printer
- Perform a hard reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
5. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed:
- Open the HP Smart app or go to the HP Support website.
- Check for firmware updates and install them if available.
6. Test the Cartridges Individually
- Insert each cartridge one by one and see if the error occurs with a specific cartridge.
- If the error reappears with a particular cartridge, it may be defective.
7. Reset the Printer
- If the problem persists, perform a printer reset to factory defaults:
- Access the printer’s control panel menu.
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
