Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I am a first time user. I want to remove the printer head from my HP C4680 Photosmart printer for cleaning. In following online instructions, I removed the ink and found a small "lever" to the right of the black ink space. However, the lever will not move up, down, right or left. It appears to be stationary. Is there another lever I have not found? Is ther another way to remove the printer head for cleaning?\thank you, Danny

@Danny8342, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP C4680!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The HP Photosmart C4680 actually has a built-in printhead that isn’t designed to be removed manually. Unlike some other printer models, the printhead in this unit is fixed and cannot be detached for cleaning. However, you can still clean it using the built-in cleaning function in the printer software. Here’s how:

Open HP Solution Center:

  • On your computer, go to Start > HP > HP Solution Center.
  • Select your printer model if prompted.

Run the Printhead Cleaning Utility:

  • Click on Settings or Tools.
  • Look for Printer Maintenance or Clean Printhead.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning process.

If you're experiencing print quality issues like streaks or missing colors, this cleaning cycle should help improve performance. You can also try manually cleaning the ink contacts with a lint-free cloth and a little distilled water if needed.

If your issue persists after running the cleaning cycle, let me know—I’d be happy to suggest further troubleshooting steps!

Hope this helps, Danny. Let me know how it goes. 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
