Hello, I have HP Deskjet F4480. I bought new genuine HP cartridges a couple of years ago and it was printing fine with both B&W and Color. Then I used another HP printer for a a year. Since my other printer is not working, I wanted to start using this printer. The cartridge status shows that there is enough ink but all pages are printed completely blank. I searched online for any suggestions and HP support suggested using "Align Printhead". I did that but no change. I also used HP Scan and Print Doctor to troubleshoot and it detected that genuine HP cartridges are installed and have about 50% ink level. But no matter what options are chosen to test the print pages after "Clean Printhead" and "Align Printheads", the pages are completely blank. It is ridiculous that the printer does not show any issue and "HP Scan and Print Doctor" can't diagnose to find an error even though the printer is not working. It will be great if someone knows the solution. I can certainly try buying new cartridges but don't want to spend if this is because of something else (since cartridges do have ink).

Hi @chiragbhatt,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP Deskjet F4480. Considering the steps you've already taken and the information you provided, here are a few more things you could try before deciding to buy new ink cartridges:
Printhead Cleaning: Since the cartridges were not used for an extended period, it's possible that the ink has dried up in the nozzles, even though the cartridges themselves show that they contain ink. You mentioned performing a "Clean Printhead" operation, but sometimes multiple cleaning cycles are necessary to solve the issue. Try running the cleaning cycle a few more times. Here's how you can do it:
- Access the HP printer software on your computer.
- Click the “Printer Services” button.
- Choose “Clean Printheads” and follow the prompts.
- Perform this process up to 3-4 times if necessary.
Check for Clogged Nozzles: Manually inspect the printhead. If accessible, you can try removing the printhead and gently cleaning it with warm distilled water or a printhead cleaning solution. Here are general steps:
- Turn off the printer and open the cover where the ink cartridge is located.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Gently remove the printhead (refer to your printer manual as models vary).
- Use a lint-free cloth soaked in warm water to gently clean the bottom of the printhead. Avoid touching the electronic parts.
- Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinserting it into the printer.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges and try printing a test page.
Printhead Alignment: Even though you've done this, after cleaning the printheads, it's a good idea to run the alignment again.
Check the Printer Software Settings: Make sure that the settings in your printer software are not configured to print in a mode that could be causing the issue, such as printing in draft mode with very light ink usage.
Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes firmware updates are released to fix bugs or improve hardware performance. Check the HP website for any firmware updates for your printer model.
Reset the Printer: Resetting the printer can help clear any error states or misconfigurations:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source for about 1 minute.
- Reconnect and turn it on to see if the issue persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks, Rachel. I have done Clean Printheads at least 6-7 times which is the first solution in your message. I have not tried to clean nozzles so I will try to do that. In the meantime, I have ordered new HP cartridge as well to see if that solves the problem. I will let you know what works.
Thanks.
