HP tout en un ENVY 5050

HP ENVY 5050

Every time I print anything or try to print anything I get a message saying "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer. If this problem persists, replace the cartridges."

I tried removing and cleaning both cartridges manually but this did not solve anything. I ALWAYS buy HP cartridges and this is the 2nd newBlack cartridge the machine refuses to accept is 'real' -  I have no idea what to do now

Hi @rosemarylouise5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

I had already done all that before coming on this forum.  I have even deleted all the software and re-added the printer again and nothing changes - the printer keeps the message 'doesn't communicate' and that hasn't changed.

Hi @rosemarylouise5,

Thank you for your response,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you provide me with the product number of your Printer? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc in a public forum...).

H @rosemarylouise5,

Thank you for your response,

There are several reasons why your HP Envy 5050 printer might suddenly refuse to communicate with a new HP black cartridge. Here are some possible causes and solutions.

  • Incorrect installation: Ensure that the new HP black cartridge is properly installed. Try removing and reinserting the cartridge, ensuring that it is securely in place.
  • Dirty or damaged cartridge contacts: If the cartridge contacts are dirty or damaged, it may not communicate properly with the printer. Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and the printer.
  • Low ink levels: Check the ink level of the new cartridge. If it is low or empty, the printer may not communicate with it. Replace the cartridge if necessary.

I hope these suggestions help you to resolve the issue with your HP Envy 5050 printer and the new HP black cartridge.

Bonjour

The printer is a few years old so I haven't put the cartridge in incorrectly.

In trying to get this to work it has been taken out and put back in several times.

I had cleaned the points already with glasses cleaner fabric. Several times

The previous cartridge gave this error and after a while it worked but no idea why.  This is a brand new official HP cartridge (like the last one and all the others) and therefore there isn't a low ink issue.

It's a 3 in 1 printer scanner and the scanner part works fine.

Now both the 3 colour cartridge and the brand new black cartridge are unable to be 'seen'

This machine is 3 years old and I'm about to throw it in the bin
