Microsoft Windows 11

I also have a new Envy Inspire 7900e. I have replaced the black cartridge with an HP804XL  but it keeps showing a message “not communicating correctly with the printer” and goes on to say replace the cartridge.  How do I get the printer working?

Any help appreciated.

Hi @JT-61_43,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the black cartridge is not working on your printer.

Please try the suggestions below:

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to resolve the issue.

Select Setup on your printer display.

Select Tools.

Select Restore Defaults.

Select Yes.

2. Manually Clean the cartridge.

Remove the cartridge from its slot, holding it by its side.

CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then clean only the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the electrical contacts located inside the printer.

Wait 10 minutes for the contacts to dry.

Reinsert the cartridge.

If the error persists, repeat the previous steps to clean the cartridge and carriage contacts a second time.

3. Try single cartridge mode.

Take out the black cartridge and use the printer with color cartridge only and check if it is being accepted.

Let me know how it goes.

If this solution hit the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks,
