I am having an issue with my 7740 Office Jet Pro for some reason. It was printing fine but a few days ago it asked me to replace the yellow cartridge. I replaced the yellow and now when I try to copy or scan anything, the entire page comes out yellow. It has the color print in the areas where color is present and the colors are correct but the entire page is printed (or scanned) as if the page has a yellow background and not white. How do I fix it, please? I have done a reset and I have changed all of the cartridges. I have done the alignments as well as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels of cleaning. What else can I do? Why is the scan also turning the background yellow? Help me please!

Hi @LisaRoatan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be a problem with the printhead or a firmware issue that's causing your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 to produce yellow-tinted pages. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this problem:

1. Check Printhead and Cartridges

  • Remove and Reinsert Cartridges: Remove all the cartridges, including the yellow one, and then reinsert them to ensure they are properly seated.
  • Clean the Printhead: Manually clean the printhead.
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Open the printer and remove the printhead assembly.
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently wipe the nozzles and contacts.
    • Allow the printhead to dry before reinserting it.

2. Firmware Update

  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Download the latest firmware from the HP support website and install it.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Hard Reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
    • Wait for 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
    • Turn the printer back on.

4. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP support website. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and scanning problems.

5. Scan Quality Settings

  • Check Scan Settings: If the problem occurs during scanning, check the scan quality settings in the software you're using. Ensure that the settings are not set to enhance colors or apply a color filter.

6. Service Mode Reset

  • Service Mode Reset: Sometimes a deeper reset is needed. To access the service menu:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the "Help" button (question mark icon) and the "Return" button (arrow icon) simultaneously.
    • While holding these buttons, press the Power button to turn on the printer.
    • Release the buttons once the printer is on and the service menu is displayed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
