I am having the same issue with my HP OfficeJet 6958. Brand new, genuine HP 902XL ink cartridges, warranty through Jan 2023.
The folks offering help and taking it offline to private chat aren't very helpful!

For mee a suggestion to downgrade helped.
The latest update from HP made the printer believe it was newer than it actually was.
So I just switched off the automatically update and downgraded to previous software and now my "old" cartridges function. Just google downgrade and your printers name.

I have an HP Office Jet 8715 and the black ink cartridge was depleted so we bought a new one and don't have the old one. The printer is still stating that the ink is depleted and for just a split second a message right before that states that 'a genuine HP cartridge has been inserted.' Please help!!
