HP OfficeJet 6950 - After MJM2CN250AR Update, No Color, Only Black
Hello,
After a recent firmware update to MJM2CN250AR, my HP OfficeJet 6950 printer started printing only with black ink. The printer completely ignores color inks
I tried several steps to fix the problem, but none of them helped:
- Restart the printer
- OOBE restart (complete restart of settings)
- Restore to factory settings
- Clean the printheads via the internal tool (level 1 to 3, repeated at least 4 times)
- Mechanically clean the printhead using a specialized cleaning solution
- Diagnostics via HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Replace with new ink cartridges (all original)
- Restart web services in the printer
- Shake all color cartridges to release ink
The problem persists even after these steps. I can't downgrade the firmware - the printer refuses to update (cannot be done due to protection)
I'm wondering if this is a bug caused by the firmware, or if anyone has experienced a similar problem after updating the MJM2CN250AR.
- Thank you for any advice or sharing of experiences.

Hi @MaximKrybus,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for detailing the steps you've already taken — we appreciate the thoroughness of your troubleshooting.
We understand how frustrating it can be to experience printing issues after a firmware update. HP has recently released a new firmware update in April 2025 that addresses several known issues, including those that may impact color printing functionality.
Please update your printer to the latest firmware version by visiting the official HP support page:
🔗 HP OfficeJet 6950 All-in-One Printer series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
Instructions:
- Download and run the firmware update utility for your operating system.
- Make sure the printer is connected and powered on.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.
After updating, restart the printer and try printing a color document or a print quality report from the printer menu.
If the issue continues after updating to the latest firmware, please let us know. We’re here to help further if needed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I ran the firmware installation program OJ6950_2506A.exe and in the status it says that the printer is in the current state (it has the latest possible version MJM2CN2506AR). I restarted the printer and nothing happened either. It prints a Printer Status Report and I see that only black ink was used. In the print head I see that the ink does not flow through the print head, but gets stuck. When I use the print head nozzle cleaning I see that the color ink has gotten into the waste container. Even when I print or do anything with printing, color is always used, but it does not print on the paper. Is there any way to request a rollback/release a fixed version of the firmware?
