HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

After replacing the yellow cartridge, the printer displayed an error stating that one or more of the cartridges appears damaged - the yellow cartridge icon present. Cleaning the printer head, the cartridges and all contact points with isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth did nothing.

Power resetting the printer - unplugging the printer plug from the printer and the wall outlet, even after multiple attempts did not work, similarly a partial reset as well as a full reset yielded no positive results. Even using the support menu (pressing the return button 4 times) and enabling or disabling OOBE trade did nothing

However, replacing the cartridge produced the same error, even replacing all cartridges the error still persisted. The issue become progressively worse as now all 4 colour cartridges icons were present when the error popped up. The inconsistent nature of the error was noticed when I removed one cartridge, the printer would state it couldn't be operated without the missing cartridge, however, suddenly the other cartridges would be recognised, although it was recognised with low ink levels, even though they are full. Regardless of which cartridge I removed, the other 3 would be recognised - this would suggest there isn't an issue with the printer head or even the cartridges, however when replacing the removed cartridge the error would persist.

I found a forum where someone had the same issue with the same printer, however when they put their printer in MFG mode, the printer worked perfectly - no errors and printing as per usual although their printer was recognised as an officejet pro 8500 instead of 8610. When I use my printer in MFG mode it works 100% without errors - the same as the forum suggested, however when I restart the printer in normal mode, the errors persist. Additionally from from the MFG menu, I reset the OOB, however this was futile.

Is there any solution to this

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your 8610 printer.  It is one of the few printers that can use non-HP ink.

The 8500 required HP ink as I recall.

Firmware is here

What happens if you put the old cartridge back in?

I've updated the firmware through my Mac, I've also tried the old cartridges again and both new HP cartridges as well as the non-HP cartridges I've been using.

See if EWS can provide more information.
This explains how to use the EWS
Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Issues with updating the firmware through the EWS - The HP Smart App for Mac, has the "Advance Setting" tab, however when I click on it opens a browser tab that doesn't open or times out. When I try locally, using the IP address of the printer, directly into ANY browser on my Mac, the result is the same, doesn't open/times out.

The HP Smart App for Mobile devices, has no option to update the firmware, however when using the browser and IP address, it opens the EWS, however, again, there is no option to update the firmware.

The only MacOS firmware I could find was for 10.14 and dated 2018

I do not know what effect using  windows firmware "1910A" will have.

Are you connected to the MAC using USB?

The EWS page can be accessed only through the IP address.

At one time there was a USB tool to see the EWS page over USB but I cannot find it.
