I purchased this printer a few months ago and when it arrived, the original 954 ink cartridges it came with where damaged, I received a message stating "Remove the cartridges and check for leaks. If any cartridges are leaking , contact HP support."and when I removed them the yellow cartridge was leaking. So I went to order a replacement and HP's website said that the 952 cartridges were now the new replacement for the 954 cartridges, so I ordered them. When the 952 cartridges arrived I placed them into the printer I now received the message stating "The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer." Confused and not knowing what to do I turned to HPSupport messaging via facebook messenger for help. I was then told to plug the printer to my pc (Windows 10) via usb and  download hpsmart and update the firmware of the printer through the app and by doing this the printer will now be able to identify the 952 cartridges. The firmware was upgraded and I am still receiving the message stating "The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer." the HPsupport person then tells me to contact HP Phone support, wow thanks!

I really need help with this issue, because this is a new printer that hasn't even printed a test page as yet. I have seen a post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/OfficeJet-7740-Ink-Cartridge-not-Compatible/td-p/73448... where it seems we have the exact same issue.

@Ronmizzle, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One printer uses HP 952 ink cartridges in the US region. As the ink cartridge that came with the printer was leaking, you could have requested for a replacement ink cartridge from HP.

 

The previous technician is correct. You need an ink cartridge replacement that can only be done by the HP Technical Support team.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region. 

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.
