Hi @BrokenLH,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 5200 printer is not detecting the new cartridge, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Compatibility: Ensure that the new cartridge is compatible with your printer model.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the new cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on it.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Close the cartridge access door and plug the printer back in.

Clean Contacts:

  • With the cartridge removed, use a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab slightly dampened with water to clean the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Let the contacts dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware: Check for any available firmware updates for your printer model through the HP Smart app or the HP website.  Update the firmware on an HP printer

Try Another Cartridge: If possible, test with another cartridge (either a different new one or the old one, if it was working) to see if the issue is with the cartridge itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
