Im experiencing an issue with my HP Smart Tank 529 All-in-One printer. Whenever I print color documents or photos, there's a noticeable purple or magenta tint over the entire print. This affects all colors, making them appear unnatural. Black and white prints come out fine
Here's what I've tried so far:
Ran the printhead cleaning utility multiple times (up to level 3).
Checked ink levels; all tanks are adequately filled.
Performed printhead alignment.
Ensured the ink tanks are properly seated and ventilated.
Used different types of paper (plain and photo).
Reinstalled the printer drivers
Despite these steps, the issue persists. I suspect it might be related to the magenta ink not dispensing correctly, as similar issues have been reported in other HP Smart Tank models .

Hi @Abhinav61
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
You've already done a thorough job troubleshooting—nice work! Since the issue persists, here are a few additional steps that might help:
Further Troubleshooting for Magenta Tint Issue
Print a Diagnostic Page
- Open HP Smart or Printer Settings and print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page.
- Check if the magenta ink appears correctly or if it's oversaturated.
Manually Clean the Printhead
- If the magenta ink is pooling or not dispensing properly, try manually cleaning the printhead:
- Remove the printhead carefully.
- Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the nozzles.
- Let it dry completely before reinstalling.
Check Ink Flow
- Since Smart Tank printers use continuous ink supply, air bubbles or clogs can disrupt ink flow.
- Try gently tapping the magenta ink tank to remove air bubbles.
- If possible, prime the ink system using HP’s built-in utility.
Update Printer Firmware
- HP occasionally releases firmware updates that fix ink dispensing issues.
- Download the latest firmware from HP’s support page.
Try a Different Print Mode
- In Printer Preferences, switch to Best Quality or Photo Mode to see if the tint issue improves.
- If printing from a specific app, try a different one (e.g., print from Adobe Acrobat instead of Word).

Hi @Abhinav61,
@Hawks_Eye is not available currently so I @VikramTheGreat am replying on behalf of the support team.
Thanks for the update — sorry to hear the issue is still hanging around even after trying everything. if it’s a cartridge issue, replacing it might finally get you printing again.
If you need any assistance do keep us posted.
Take care and have a good day.
