I cannot get my black printhead to be clean. Level 2 and 3 clean gets better, but on the Print Quality Diagnostic Page Left edge of the black printout for Test Pattern 2 and Test Pattern 3 is ragged, where the right line on Test Pattern 3 is perfect.
Does this sound like I need a new printhead? Or should I just replace the printer, given that this is out of warranty.

Hi @AndrewNJ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you are dealing with a potentially faulty printhead in your HP Smart Tank Plus 551 printer, especially since cleaning levels 2 and 3 have only partially improved the quality. Here are some steps you can consider before deciding to replace the printhead or the printer:
Realign the Printhead: Sometimes, poor print quality can be improved by realigning the printhead. Check your printer's manual or settings to find the printhead alignment option and run it.
Check for Clogs or Damage: Even though you've performed multiple cleaning cycles, there might still be clogs or even damage to the printhead that aren't completely cleared. Examine the printhead closely if your printer allows access to it. Look for any visible signs of ink buildup or damage.
Use Genuine HP Ink: If you are not already, ensure you are using genuine HP ink. Third-party inks can sometimes cause issues with print quality and even damage the printhead.
Software Update: Check if there are any firmware or software updates available for your printer. These updates can sometimes resolve hardware issues or improve the function of your printer.
If the issue still occurs, it must be a hardware issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
