Hello,

TLDR:  I have cleaned this thing through two sets of cartridges now and it still wont print properly.  It appears blue is the issue.

Background:

I had the same issue 1 month ago.  I was able to clear it after printing probably 20 test sheets and cleanings.  The issue is back and the printer has been printing at least once a week on-going.  So frustrating.  Now I have another 20 test pages and went through two sets of ink trying to clean this out.

Ideas?

Hi @lowellbarret,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Check Printhead Alignment

  • Go to Printer Settings > Maintenance > Align Printhead
  • Print an alignment page and follow on-screen instructions to adjust it.

2. Manually Clean the Printhead

Since automatic cleaning hasn’t helped, try this:

  1. Remove the printhead (if your model allows it).
  2. Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
  3. Gently wipe the printhead nozzles to remove dried ink.
  4. Let it air dry for 10 minutes, then reinstall.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from power for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
  3. Reconnect everything and turn it back on.

4. Try a Different Ink Cartridge

If you've used third-party ink, it could be a compatibility issue. Even if using HP ink, try a fresh cyan cartridge in case it’s defective.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Open HP Smart App or go to the HP website to check for firmware updates.
  • Some updates fix ink flow and printhead issues.

6. Check Ink Delivery System for Blockages

  1. Open the printer cover and inspect the ink lines (if visible).
  2. If air bubbles or dry ink are seen, try printing multiple pages in grayscale with cyan-heavy content to force ink through.

7. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool

  • Download HP’s diagnostic tool: HP Print and Scan Doctor
  • Run it to detect and fix common printing issues.

Let me know how it goes.
