Hi @Fbite, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A double print (ghosting) issue on your HP Laser MFP 179fnw can be caused by several factors, including drum unit issues, fuser problems, or incorrect paper settings. Try these troubleshooting steps:
Check the Paper Type and Settings
- Ensure that the correct paper type is selected in the printer driver.
- Windows: Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Right-click HP 179fnw → Printing Preferences → Paper Type and select the correct one.
- Mac: Go to System Preferences → Printers & Scanners → Select Printer → Options & Supplies and adjust settings.
Check the Fuser Unit
- If the fuser is not heating properly, toner may not adhere correctly, causing ghosting.
- Print a Printer Status Report:
- Press the Setup button on the printer.
- Navigate to Reports → Configuration Report and print it.
- If ghosting appears, the fuser may be faulty and needs replacement.
Inspect the Drum Unit (Imaging Unit)
- Open the front cover and remove the imaging unit.
- Check for toner buildup or scratches on the drum.
- If damaged, replace the drum unit (part no. SU494A).
Check for Moisture in Paper
- Use high-quality, dry paper; moisture can cause toner misalignment.
- Store paper in a dry place and use fresh sheets.
Try a Different Toner Cartridge
- A defective or low-quality third-party toner may cause double printing.
- Try replacing the toner with an original HP 116A cartridge.
Perform a Firmware Update
- Update the printer firmware via HP Smart App or the HP website to fix software-related ghosting issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
