Hi @duchess45,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A black line down the border when copying a document with your HP OfficeJet 4650 (HPDD2248) typically indicates that there is dirt or debris on the scanner glass or the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Here's how to address this issue.

Cleaning the Scanner Glass and ADF

Turn off the Printer:

  • Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source.

Open the Scanner Lid:

  • Open the scanner lid to access the scanner glass and the ADF.

Clean the Scanner Glass:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or glass cleaner. Wipe the scanner glass thoroughly.
  • Dry the glass with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.

Clean the ADF Strip:

  • Locate the ADF glass strip, usually situated on the left side of the main scanner glass.
  • Clean the ADF strip with the same soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or glass cleaner.
  • Ensure the ADF strip is dry before closing the scanner lid.

Check for Debris:

  • Check for any small particles or debris inside the ADF. Remove any visible debris carefully.

Testing the Copy Function

Turn on the Printer:

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Run a Test Copy:

  • Place a clean, white sheet of paper on the scanner glass and make a test copy.
  • Check if the black line still appears.

If the black line continues to appear after following these steps, there may be an issue with the ADF sensor or other internal components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
