HP ENVY Inspire 7920e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I signed up for free in when getting my new printer - unknown to me this would set my printer up as HP+ and not now allow me to use none HP cartridges.  Is there a way of changing this setting or has HP hoodwinked me into having to buy their products.  My last HP printer used alternative cartridges without any issues of over 7 years.

Hi @Bockbees,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To deregister from HP+ and use non-HP cartridges with your HP ENVY Inspire 7920e All-in-One Printer, you can follow these steps.

Cancel HP+ Subscription:

  • HP Account Management: Go to the HP Smart website and log in with your HP account credentials.
  • Manage Subscription: Look for options related to managing your HP+ subscription and cancel it if possible.

Reset Printer to Factory Settings:

  • On the Printer: Access the printer’s settings menu from the touchscreen display. Look for a "Setup" or "Settings" option, then find "Printer Maintenance" or similar and select "Restore Factory Defaults."
  • Follow Prompts: Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to complete the process. This should remove any HP+ configuration.

Check Printer Settings:

  • After the reset, check the printer’s settings to ensure it no longer requires HP+ for cartridge usage.

By deregistering from HP+ and resetting the printer, you should be able to use non-HP cartridges without issues. Keep in mind that while HP+ is designed to ensure compatibility with HP cartridges, deregistering might affect some features associated with HP+ services.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

It would not let me de-register despite doing the above twice.

HP has now agreed to send me a new printer
