Hello Cyan setup cartridge cannot communicate correctly. I can go no further with the setup of my printer, have tried HP Help with no response, can't get anyone live, or phone unless I am disabled. I had to reconnect my old HP which only works via cable connect. Ok for me because I hardwired, family is not and complains to me. Now I have a brand-new printer that I cannot setup because of one ink cartridge. Don't like this design. my old one whines and groans and has been out if color ink for a while, and Wi-Fi is dead, BUT it still prints and scans. Thank goodness. We run a small part time business. Need a working printer. if anyone can lead me in the right direction i appreciate it.

Hi @J9876,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue involving your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e series printer, specifically the cyan setup cartridge. Here's a comprehensive guide to resolving the problem.
Check the Cartridge Installation
- Open the printer's access door and ensure the cyan cartridge is seated properly.
- Remove and reinsert the cartridge to ensure it clicks into place securely.
Inspect the Cartridge
- Examine the chip on the cyan cartridge for any damage or dirt.
- Clean the cartridge chip gently using a lint-free cloth and a small amount of distilled water. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting.
Update Printer Firmware
If the printer is connected to the internet:
- Go to the printer's Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer or similar.
- Install any available updates, which might resolve communication issues with the setup cartridge.
Reset the Printer
- Disconnect the power cord while the printer is turned on.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and power the printer back on.
- Retry the setup process.
Use Bypass Setup Mode (If Applicable)
Some HP printers allow you to bypass setup cartridges and proceed with standard cartridges:
- Insert a new, non-setup cyan cartridge.
- Attempt to proceed with the setup.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
