I have HP 7301 Smart Tank printer. It does not print cyan. All other colors and black work fine. Would replacing the print head fix the problem. Also I notice when the top of the printer is lifted up the print head does not move to center. It just sits in the parked position. The printer does seem to know that the top is open because the power light is flashing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I had already tried the steps you listed but nothing helped. What I did to resolve the problem is as follows. Removed cyan ink tube at the print head. Attached a syringe to the tubing and sucked some ink out to remove any clog. Then I hooked the syringe to the print head and pushed some ink into the print head. After reconnecting the cyan tubing. The printer work normally. Thank you for your help.

Hi @Mark540,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 7301 Smart Tank printer is not printing cyan, there could be several reasons for this issue. Before considering replacing the print head, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.
- Check Cyan Ink Level: Ensure that the cyan ink tank is not empty. If it is low, refill it with the appropriate cyan ink.
- Run Print Head Cleaning: Most printers, including the HP Smart Tank series, have a print head cleaning utility. Use the printer's software or control panel to run a print head cleaning cycle to clear any clogs that may be affecting the cyan ink flow.
- Check for Clogs: Inspect the print head and ink nozzles for any clogs or dried ink. If you find any, carefully clean them using a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dipped in distilled water.
- Ensure Proper Installation: Make sure that the cyan ink tank is correctly installed, and there are no issues with the ink tank or its connection.
- Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure that your printer firmware and drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, software updates can resolve printing issues.
- Perform a Printer Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve minor glitches.
Regarding the issue with the print head not moving to the center when you lift the top of the printer, it's possible that there may be a mechanical problem. The fact that the power light is flashing when the top is open indicates that the printer recognizes the open state.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
