HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 All-in-One Printer

I would like to know why I can't print just black only?  Do you have to have the color cartridges full also?

Hi @Dawn3767,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

For the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 printer, typically, you should be able to print in black-only mode even if the color cartridges are empty or low. However, some HP printers might require all cartridges to have sufficient ink levels to function correctly, even when printing in black only. This is because some printers use a small amount of color ink for maintenance tasks, even when printing in grayscale.

To troubleshoot this issue:

  • Printer Settings Check: Ensure that your printer settings are configured to print in black only. Sometimes, default settings may override your preferences.
  • Ink Levels: Check the ink levels of all cartridges. Even if you're printing in black, some printers require all cartridges to have a minimum level of ink to operate.
  • Printer Software Update: Ensure your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Sometimes, updates can improve functionality related to ink usage and printing options.
  • Printer Preferences: Set your printer preferences explicitly to print in grayscale or black and white to avoid any color usage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
