Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check the Cartridges
- Verify Proper Installation: Make sure the cartridges are properly inserted. Remove them and reinstall them one by one, ensuring they click securely into place.
- Examine the Cartridges: Sometimes, brand-new cartridges can be faulty. Double-check the expiration dates and ensure there are no protective tapes or plastic films still on the cartridges.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer using the power button, then unplug it from the power outlet for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn the printer on. This simple reset can sometimes resolve minor glitches.
Check for Printer Error Codes
- Error Message on the Display: If there is an error code on the printer’s display screen, write it down. HP has a detailed list of error codes that can help pinpoint the exact issue.
- Check for Paper Jams: Sometimes, a jam can trigger an error message even when it doesn’t seem obvious. Open all the paper access areas to see if any paper is stuck or misaligned.
Perform a Printer Self-Test
- Many HP printers offer a self-test or diagnostic tool that can be accessed via the printer’s control panel.
- On the printer’s home screen, go to Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report or Printer Status Report. This may help identify any hardware issues or problems with the cartridges.

Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with new ink cartridges.
- Connect your printer to a computer and check if there are any firmware updates available through the HP Smart app or via HP’s website.
Reinstall Printer Software
- Uninstall and reinstall the printer software on your computer. This ensures that the printer settings and software are aligned with the new cartridges.
- Make sure to download the latest drivers and software from the HP support website.
Check Ink Cartridge Contacts
- Sometimes the ink cartridge contacts (both on the cartridge and inside the printer) can become dirty or misaligned. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the contacts.
Check for Compatibility
- Ensure that the replacement cartridges are compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, third-party or incompatible cartridges can cause issues. If you’re using aftermarket cartridges, try replacing them with genuine HP cartridges to test whether they work.
Check the Printhead
- If the printer continues to report a failure, the issue could be with the printhead. The printhead might be clogged or malfunctioning. You can try cleaning the printhead manually or running a cleaning cycle through the printer's software (accessible through the printer settings).
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
