Hi @PowerOf4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are receiving an "older generation cartridge" error message on your HP Officejet Pro 8710 printer, it means that the printer is unable to recognize one or more of the cartridges that you have installed.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Make sure that you are using genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with your printer model. Using non-HP or older generation cartridges can cause this error message.
- Check that the cartridges are installed correctly. Open the cartridge access door and ensure that the cartridges are securely in place.
- Clean the contacts on the cartridges and in the printer. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Remove the cartridges and use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the contacts on the cartridges and in the printer.
- Reset the printer. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a few minutes and then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Update the printer firmware. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your printer and install them.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
