Hello, I really could use some help. My printing was working fine. No issues. Then all of a sudden it started printing color VERY slowly. I have remove drivers, reinstalled drivers, updated firmware, made sure print quality is correct. I even ran the printer Dr and still color is printing out slow and when i say slow i mean it takes more than 30 min to complete one page that is in color. I run my own business and uses this printer to print my labels for products. So i need this to work asap. all of my labels print in color so that is going to be a problem if i cant fix this.

Hi @Tishonda,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to experience such slow printing speeds, especially when it's affecting your business operations. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Print Settings:

  • Make sure that the print quality settings are not set too high. Higher quality settings can significantly slow down printing, especially in color. Try adjusting the print quality to a lower setting (such as Draft or Normal) to see if that improves speed.

Connection and Driver Issues:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected directly to a USB 2.0 port on your computer for optimal performance. Sometimes using USB 3.0 ports can cause compatibility issues.
  • Verify that you have the latest printer drivers installed for your HP DeskJet Plus 4140. Sometimes, even after reinstalling drivers, remnants of old drivers can cause issues. Completely uninstall the printer and drivers, then reinstall them from scratch.

Network and Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If your printer is connected over a network, check if there are any firmware updates available for the printer. Updated firmware can sometimes improve performance and fix bugs.

Printer Queue and Spooler Settings:

  • Clear the print queue to ensure there are no stuck print jobs that might be causing the slowdown.
  • Reset the print spooler service on your computer. You can do this by opening Command Prompt as Administrator and running the command net stop spooler && net start spooler.

Paper Type and Size Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper type and size settings in both your printer settings and your print job settings match the paper loaded in the printer. Mismatched settings can cause the printer to process jobs slowly or even halt printing.

Hardware Check:

  • Check if there are any physical obstructions inside the printer that might be affecting the printing mechanism, such as paper jams or debris.

HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Since you've already run HP Print and Scan Doctor, it's good to verify if it detected any issues and if the recommended solutions were applied.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
