HP laser Jet print cartridge 35 A

 

I have had a different cartridge system in India for 18 yrs. I had a tech 3 hrs. away who handled all computer/printer needs.

I am 78, reassigned to America, and all is new. I am without a computer tech.

I put the cartridge in and the copy was blank.

I took out the cartridge, saw an orange tab, had no directions so I pulled the orange tab. Eventually the ribbon appeared.

Now I have an orange tab, 10 in. of plain ribbon, and 8 in of print ribbon with a thumb smear where I touched it.

What can I do now?

Do not quite follow, when you pull the tab, a plastic strip about the length of the cartridge should pull out and detach from the cartridge. Then you simply insert the cartridge into the printer. Can you post a picture as your description is not entirely clear as to what you are looking at.

Is the tape supposed to full of powered ink that gets everywhere?  That's the one I pulled.
