Hi @SamInk,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how upsetting it is to see “Ink cartridges not installed properly” again and again, especially when you need to print, and everything should just work. Let’s walk through this gently together, step by step.

STEP 1: Remove All Cartridges Slowly and Carefully

  1. Power ON the printer.
  2. Lift the cartridge access door.
  3. Wait for the carriage to move to the center.
  4. Remove each cartridge gently, one by one.
    • Feel the soft release as it comes loose.

This clears any incorrect seating.

STEP 2: Clean the Gold Contacts

Each cartridge has a gold chip plate on the front.
Even a thin layer of oil or dust can cause the printer to reject it.

  1. Use a dry, lint‑free cloth (like an eyeglass cleaning cloth).
  2. Wipe the gold contacts on each cartridge.
  3. Inside the printer, gently wipe the gold contacts on the carriage.

The movement should feel gentle, like polishing a camera lens.

STEP 3: Reinstall the Cartridges One by One

  1. Insert one cartridge at a time, firmly but gently.
  2. You should feel a clean “click” as each one locks.
  3. Close the access door.
  4. Wait for the printer to check them.

If one cartridge triggers the error, that cartridge is the problem.

STEP 4: Perform a Power Reset

  1. Leave the printer ON.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  5. Turn it ON and check the status.

This resets the ink system and clears many false‑reading errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
