I have an Officejet pro 7740 printer and have installed a 957xl black cartridge to replace the original setup 953 cartridge. The printer gives me a message that the cartridge is "an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer". The label on the door lists this as a compatible cartridge. Any suggestions?

Due to a later firmware update of the printer the older generation cartridge error returns, you would need to replace the ink cartridge with a genuine in-warranty ink cartridge and the error would no longer occur, all the information is explained by the support document included in my previous post.

Hi,
You would need to replace the ink cartridge, an older generation error indicate an older cartridge version, no longer warrantied, please check below support document:

An older generation cartridge error will result due to an old cartridge, which its warranty end date of Jan 2021 or earlier is not compatible with the printer.
If this is a recently purchased and genuine ink cartridge, please return to the retailer, a newly purchased ink cartridge should not be out of its warranty period.

Hi. I understand what you're saying here, however it does not tie up with the info on the original setup cartridge which came with the printer. The expiry date for this was 2019/09. FYI the expiry on the 957xl cartridge was May 2020.
