Hello Community:

Has HP begun shipping out ink cartridges (952XL for OfficeJet Pro 8710) with no orange pull tabs or sealing of any kind other than that the cartridges were placed in the box?  I have gotten two in a row from Walmart and both were just the cartridges in the box. No sealing or orange pull tab at all.

TY!

Hi @BookandSong

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how surprising it must feel to open a cartridge box and find no orange pull tab or sealing, especially when you’re used to seeing that protective strip.

Thank you for carefully checking the packaging and sharing your experience—it shows real attention to detail.

HP ink cartridges, including the 952XL series for the OfficeJet Pro 8710, are normally shipped with protective features such as an orange pull tab or clip to cover the ink nozzles and electrical contacts. This prevents ink leakage and ensures the cartridge is fresh until installed.

Here are a few steps you can take:

  1. Check the packaging – Genuine HP cartridges usually come in sealed boxes with security labels. Inspect the box for tampering or signs of resealing.

  2. Inspect the cartridge – Look for the HP logo and product number printed clearly on the cartridge. The electrical contacts and ink nozzles should appear clean and undamaged

If you receive cartridges without any sealing, it’s important to verify that they are genuine HP supplies and not repackaged or tampered with.
