HP DeskJet 2820e All-in-One Printer

I am experiencing an issue with my printer after inserting new cartilage of ink . The hp app shows the ink as full, but the printer displays a yellow light and continuously loads "0". When printing information page, it prints normally, but anything else results as an error with printer. I'm sure i used the right ink (305) because with previous one after canceling subscription I didn't have a problem. Can you please advise me how to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

Hi @Niveti58,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet 2820e printer is rejecting the new ink cartridge, despite the HP Smart app recognizing it as full. Since you've verified you're using the correct ink (HP 305), here are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 2-3 minutes to allow any residual power to drain.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Step 2: Remove and Reinsert the Ink Cartridge

  1. Open the cartridge access door and remove both cartridges (black & color).
  2. Gently wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  3. Allow the cartridges to dry for a few seconds.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges and make sure they click into place.
  5. Close the cartridge access door and check if the error persists.

Step 3: Check for HP+ Subscription Issues

  • Since you mentioned canceling your HP Instant Ink subscription, ensure the cartridge is not an Instant Ink cartridge, as they stop working after the subscription is canceled.
  • If the new ink cartridge was purchased separately, try using another genuine HP cartridge to rule out a defective cartridge.

Step 4: Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  1. Open HP Smart on your computer or phone.
  2. Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Printer Updates and check for updates.
  3. Install any available updates and restart the printer.

Step 5: Run the Printhead Cleaning Utility

  1. Open HP Smart > Click on your printer > Print Quality Tools.
  2. Select Clean Printhead and follow the instructions.
  3. Try printing again.

Step 6: Perform a Factory Reset

If the issue persists, resetting the printer to factory settings might help:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless (WiFi) and Cancel (X) buttons together for about 5 seconds until the printer restarts.
  2. Set up the printer again using HP Smart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
