@leemitre, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let us try these steps:
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your PC.

Make sure the A3 paper is loaded correctly in the input tray. Refer to - Loading Paper, Cards, Envelopes

@Obetor, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Have you tried printing from a different application to check if the lines persist?
Does this happen only on A3 papers?
Keep me posted.

Hi, I have the same problem. The jagged lines only show on A3 prints of drawings - as the picture above (Obetor's post).
I am using Turbocad 2020 Deluxe and have also tested A3 printing in Word 365. The same jagged lines on both.
My printer is new and so firmware update doesn't help.
I have found that copying from A4 and doubling the size to A3 does not give the jagged lines
Any advice please?

I have the same problem, its obviously a software issue as each part of the line is printed on each horizontal pass of the printhead, the resultant printed section is being printed at 45 degs to the correct alingment.
Its not an alignment issue as each pass lines up with the one above and below but have just been printed at 45degs. Thats why doing printhead alignent on the printer is ineffective.
As it is also only happening on A3 paper and not A4, the printhead and ink doesnt change, so why would the print head or ink cartridges be an issue.
The font though has had to adjusted to the larger paper size which is a function of the printing software, I assume this could be either Windows driver related, or firmware related. It is unlikley to be related to an application issue as it happens indepentantly of which application is being used.
Please can this be sorted. I have tried to find old drivers and the previous firmware for the printer, to try and roll back but have not found any i trust.

HI, I have the same issue when printing in A3 only. I'm also finding that it defaults to black & white when I have selected to print in colour in the software I am printing from and in my printing preferences.
Has anyone found a solution? Thanks.

I also have the same problem. I updated the firmware etc. I found that using a differnt driver worked better (PCL 3 B-size), but that was not installed by HPSmart. Also I don't think this is the fully featured driver. I tried to find the right driver but I keep getting pointed to HPSmart. Where is the 7740 full-featured driver for when HPSmart fails ???? This has been a very frustrting experience.
