HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently purchased a new Dell xps 15 laptop to replace my old one.  It had formally printed envelopes without a problem.  But now the print is not printing correctly.

I called HP support & they told me to change the font.  No difference.

So after spending all morning on this I think I fixed it.

I went to settings & clicked on Bluetooth & Devices> Printers & Scanners, Under Printer Preferences turn off or do not use "windows protected print mode".  They say it helps printer security, but it won't print envelopes correctly for me if it is on.

Hi @abcd12341270

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It looks like you’ve made some progress on resolving the issue with your printer not printing correctly on envelopes after getting your new Dell XPS 15 laptop. That’s great! It sounds like the setting in your printer preferences was causing the problem.

For anyone else reading this, it sounds like the issue might be related to printer preferences or settings that automatically adjust the print layout or format when you print on envelopes. Turning off the setting that was causing this issue helped to fix it for you. This is common when settings like paper size, orientation, or automatic scaling interfere with printing formats like envelopes.

Here’s a recap and some additional tips that might help others facing similar issues:

1. Printer Preferences Settings:

  • In Printers & Scanners > Printer Preferences, you can control the printer’s behavior. Some printers have automatic settings for envelopes, like orientation or scaling, which can cause issues if they don’t align properly with the envelope's size.
  • Turning off or adjusting these settings, as you did, can help ensure that the printer doesn’t try to adjust the print job inappropriately.

2. Check Paper Size and Orientation:

  • In addition to disabling certain automatic preferences, you should always double-check that paper size and orientation are set correctly for the envelopes.
  • You can adjust this directly in your print dialog box when you print, ensuring the correct envelope size (like #10 or DL) is selected.

3. Use the Correct Tray/Feed:

  • Envelopes often require a specific paper feed tray (or a manual feed slot) on the printer. Make sure that you’re loading the envelopes into the correct tray or slot, and that it’s configured in the printer preferences or settings.

4. Adjust Font and Layout in Word:

  • If you're printing from an application like Microsoft Word, be sure that the page layout is properly set for envelopes, not just the font. Word has a specific Envelopes option under the Mailings tab to ensure that the layout is correct.

5. Test with Another Document or Software:

  • If you’re still having issues with printing envelopes, test printing from another document or program (such as Notepad or Adobe Acrobat) to rule out any software-related issues.

6. Printer Driver:

  • If none of these solutions work, consider checking if your printer driver needs an update. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with specific print jobs like envelopes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
