Our printer recently started throwing recurring blue blotches across the length of the page, looking like a roller caused it. It also has a nasty looking yellow line all the way down the one side. Also, the WHOLE page (within the printable area) is a dinge-y blue-grey background (even with a plain text page) compared to the natural white of the paper (see pics).
All of this happens even when printing a blank page from Word, but does NOT happen if we print the image in black & white.
Is there some trick to fixing this?

Hello Darkflux,
The basic recommendations:
- Make sure the printer is connected directly into the wall outlet and not to a power strip or UPS, etc; the printer is meant to be connected to the wall outlet so it can receive the correct amount of voltage and then distribute it to the internal components of the printer, including the ones involved in the print process.
- Make sure that the paper type is supported by the printer and adjust the paper settings on setup-paper setup- tray 1 and tray 2- paper size and type. In the link below you can check the paper types supported by the printer. (Media types).

- Print a supplies status page and check the toner information and toner level, this also might help to check if the print quality issue happens because of the type of drivers or if it is something more hardware related.
Setup- Reports- Supplies Status Page.
- Make sure that all cartridges are hp original toners and not used or refilled; non hp cartridges can cause print quality issues and mid or long term they can damage the printer, since it can generate jams and print quality issues.
- Replace the toner cartridges if they are less than 20% of its capacity.
- Make sure the firmware is updated.
- If after this recommendations the issue persist, you can call tech support for further investigation if the printer is under warranty or take the printer to an authorized service center to have the printer checked.

Thank you for that information. I am pretty sure it is a hardware issue, as it occurs when printing from ANY computer, and we have about a dozen of them here. I've downloaded the latest drivers for the printer as well (FULL drivers, not just generic network drivers).
I'm guessing that it is one of the rollers that just isn't letting go of the toner, but I'm not sure which one. Any suggestions?

Hello,
Since is a hardware issue, is recommendable to call tech support if the printer is still under warranty to start testing the printer and have a better recommendation of what the damage part could be, if the printer is not under warranty you can call still call support to check all the options for the out of warranty printer, or take the printer to an Authorized Service Center to have the printer servised.
