@RoyKB,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 is experiencing a loss of color output despite multiple cleaning cycles, try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Check Ink Levels:

  • Open HP Smart or the printer’s control panel to check ink levels.
  • If any cartridge is low or empty, replace it.

2. Use Genuine HP Ink:

  • Non-HP or refilled cartridges can cause print quality issues.

3. Perform a "Deep Cleaning":

  1. On the printer’s touchscreen, go to:
Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
  2. If one cleaning cycle doesn’t work, repeat it up to 3 times (but not more, as excessive cleaning wastes ink).

4. Print a Printhead Diagnostic Report:

  1. From the printer's menu: Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report
  2. Check if any colors are completely missing. If so, it could indicate a clogged printhead.

5. Manually Clean the Printhead:

If automated cleaning doesn’t help, manually clean the printhead:

  1. Remove the ink cartridges.
  2. Take out the printhead assembly (if removable).
  3. Use a lint-free cloth dampened with warm, distilled water to gently wipe the nozzles.
  4. Let it air-dry for a few minutes, then reinstall.

6. Align the Printhead:

  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead

7. Perform a Printhead Reset:

If the issue persists, try a printer reset:

  1. Unplug the printer while it is on.
  2. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in.

8. Consider Replacing the Printhead:

If none of the above steps work and colors are still missing, the printhead may be permanently clogged. The printhead in this model is non-user-replaceable, but you may need to contact HP Support for a replacement or service.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 utilizes the C2P18A printhead. However, HP typically advises contacting their support for printhead issues, as replacements are often managed by authorized service providers: https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05135226.pdf.

For users in the United Kingdom, third-party vendors offer compatible printheads:

Important Considerations:

  • Warranty Implications: Installing third-party components may void any existing warranties.

  • Compatibility and Quality: Ensure the product's compatibility and quality by reviewing seller ratings and customer feedback.

Recommendation:

Before proceeding with a purchase, it's advisable to contact HP Support UK to discuss your printer's issues and explore authorized repair options. This approach ensures that any replacements or repairs maintain the printer's performance and adhere to warranty terms.

If you choose to replace the printhead yourself, exercise caution and follow any provided installation guidelines carefully.

Kind Regards,
