I have had a HP Smart Tank 7001 for about a year now. I just had to fill the black and cyan ink tanks and ended up topping off all four - black, cyan, magenta and yellow. The yellow ink will not print out on anything and does not show up on the print quality diagnostic page. I have cleaned the printer heads, done alighment, and still no yellow.

Hi @DHR927,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already done a lot of the right troubleshooting steps. Here are a few additional suggestions you can try to resolve the issue with the yellow ink:
Check Ink Levels and Fill Status:
- Double-check that the yellow ink tank is properly filled and seated correctly. Sometimes, if the ink tank isn’t inserted correctly or is not properly aligned, it can cause issues.
Inspect the Ink Tank:
- Make sure there are no air bubbles in the yellow ink tank. Sometimes air bubbles can block the flow of ink. Gently tap the tank to see if you can dislodge any bubbles.
Check for Blockages:
- Ensure that there are no clogs in the yellow ink nozzle. Sometimes ink can dry up or get clogged. If possible, try removing the yellow ink tank and using a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the contacts and the nozzle area.
Perform a Deep Clean:
- In addition to the standard cleaning cycle, your printer may have an option for a more thorough cleaning or deep clean cycle. This can sometimes help clear stubborn clogs that regular cleaning doesn’t address.
Reinstall the Ink Cartridges:
- Try removing and reinstalling the yellow ink tank. Sometimes a simple reinstallation can fix issues related to recognition.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your HP SmartTank 7001. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility or performance issues.
Perform a Printhead Alignment:
- Even though you’ve already done this, it’s worth doing it again after any cleaning or maintenance. Proper alignment ensures that ink is distributed correctly.
Replace the Ink Tank:
- If none of the above steps work, the yellow ink tank itself might be defective. Try replacing it with a new tank to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have checked everything I can on the Smarttank 7001. The tanks are all full, I have aligned and run a diagnostic every day, several times a day for the last week. If the tanks can be removed, I don't see how and can not find any info on this in the user manual. I can only see the ink level in the at the front of the printer where it reflects the amount of ink in each tank. I have made sure the caps are on properly. I can not see how you can pull a tank out, check for bubbles, clogs, etc... I don't have ink cartridges, I have tanks.
When I print a diagnostic page, the yellow does not show up. If there is a case that the yellow ink tank needs to be replaced, how do I do that?
