Officejet Pro 6978 has quit printing. The page that printed was barely readable- missing ink. I have replaced the ink cartridge and also reset the printer. I was working fine just a couple of weeks ago. Any suggestions?

It's frustrating when your printer stops working correctly, but there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue with your HP Officejet Pro 6978. Let's go through them step by step.

 

Check Ink Levels: Make sure the new ink cartridge you installed is not empty and properly inserted. Some printers may not print if the ink level is critically low.

 

Clean the Printhead: Inkjet printers can sometimes have clogged printheads. You can clean the printhead to improve print quality. Here's how:

  • On the printer control panel, go to "Setup."
  • Select "Printer Maintenance" or a similar option.
  • Choose "Clean Printhead" and follow the on-screen instructions.

 

Alignment: Sometimes, aligning the printhead can improve print quality. To do this:

  • On the printer control panel, go to "Setup."
  • Select "Printer Maintenance" or a similar option.

Print a Test Page: Print a test page to check if the issue is resolved. Most printers have a test page option in their settings.

Update Printer Drivers: Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

Check for Firmware Updates: Updating the printer's firmware can sometimes resolve issues. You can check for firmware updates on the HP website as well.

Check Print Quality Settings: Ensure that your print quality settings are appropriate for the type of document you're trying to print. Sometimes, setting the print quality to a higher setting can improve output quality.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: To ensure the best performance and print quality, it's recommended to use genuine HP ink cartridges.

Inspect for Physical Damage: Check the printer for any physical damage or obstructions that might be affecting the printing process.

Reinstall the Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try removing the printer from your computer and then reinstalling it. This can help refresh the printer settings.

I have tried all of your suggestions except the printer alignment does not work- the paper that is scanned is not of good quality for it to be detected. I have also clean the under the ink cartridges as suggested on you tube as well as cleaning from above on the black cartridge area. No success in getting black to print. 

Any other suggestions?
