Hi @Montease, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We understand that you are getting "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer" error message.

Please follow these steps,

Check for Cartridge Issues

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. If you are enrolled in HP Instant Ink, ensure you are using the provided Instant Ink cartridges.
  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges to ensure proper seating.
    1. Turn the printer on.
    2. Open the cartridge access door and wait until the carriage stops moving.
    3. Remove the affected cartridges.
    4. Inspect them for any protective tape (if new) and check for dirt or ink buildup on the chip.
    5. Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.

Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to clean:
    • The gold-colored contacts on the cartridges.
    • The carriage contacts inside the printer.
  • Let them dry completely before reinserting.

Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait 2–3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update the Printer Firmware

  • Visit HP Support and download the latest firmware for your printer.
  • Install it and check if the issue persists.

5. Try a Different Set of Cartridges

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
