Try these steps:
1. Check Printer Settings: Ensure the printer settings are configured to print in color.
- Open the document you want to print.
- Click on File and then Print.
- Ensure that the Print in Grayscale or Black & White option is deselected.
- Choose Color in the print settings.
2. Check Printer Driver Settings: Verify that the printer driver settings are correct on your computer.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 and select Printing Preferences.
- Ensure that the Print in Grayscale option is not selected.
3. Perform a Print Quality Diagnostic Report: Run a diagnostic report to check for issues with the printheads.
- On the printer control panel, swipe down on the display to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon.
- Touch Printer Maintenance.
- Touch Print Quality Report.
4. Clean the Printhead: Perform a printhead cleaning to ensure there are no clogs.
- On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard.
- Touch the Setup icon.
- Select Printer Maintenance.
- Select Clean Printhead and follow the on-screen instructions.
5. Align the Printhead: Misalignment can affect color printing.
- Swipe down on the control panel to open the Dashboard.
- Touch the Setup icon.
- Select Printer Maintenance.
- Choose Align Printhead and follow the instructions.
6. Update Firmware: Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
7. Check Ink Levels: Ensure that all ink cartridges have sufficient ink.
- Swipe down on the control panel to open the Dashboard.
- Check the ink levels displayed.
8. Verify Cartridge Installation: Ensure the color cartridges are installed correctly.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove and reinsert the color cartridges to ensure they are properly seated.
