I am trying to set up my brand new HP Photosmart 6520. It is out of warranty and I do not have the setup cartridges. How can I bypass the "Use SETUP Cartridges" message?

I ended up calling HP technical support and they informed me that my printer had past the manufacturer's expiration date and was in hardware failure and would never work for this reason.

Hi @RacheloftheSky,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Use SETUP Cartridges" message on an HP printer is typically displayed when the printer detects that the initial setup cartridges are missing or empty. These setup cartridges are provided with the printer to help initialize the printing system during the initial setup process. If you don't have these cartridges, you can try the following methods to bypass this message and start using your HP Photosmart 6520 with regular ink cartridges.
Use Compatible Cartridges: You can try using compatible or remanufactured ink cartridges that are designed for your HP Photosmart 6520. While the printer may still display the setup cartridge message, it should allow you to proceed and use the compatible cartridges for regular printing.
Reset the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer can help bypass the setup cartridge requirement. Here's how to reset your HP printer:
a. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
b. Wait for about 60 seconds.
c. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Firmware Update: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, firmware updates can change printer behavior, and there might be an update that addresses this issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I have genuine HP cartridges in the printer, but it will still not get past the "Use SETUP Cartridges" screen. I've powered down and unplugged the computer and waited over 60 seconds. When I turn it back on, it still will not go past this screen. I'm not able to run any updates from this screen either. Please give me another solution. Thank you.

I'm not an instant ink customer and the only other option it gives me for support is this forum. I saw in many other posts with this same problem, the customer was sent detailed instructions on how to bypass the error message to their inbox. Do you have access to those instructions that you can provide to me, please?
