Hi @elk25,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with an issue where your HP ink cartridges, which are new and full, are showing as empty after only a few uses. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including ink cartridge chip malfunctions, printer errors, or clogging issues in the printhead. Since you've already cleaned the printheads, here are a few more steps to troubleshoot:
1. Check the Ink Cartridge Chip
- The chip on the ink cartridge may be malfunctioning or dirty, causing it to incorrectly report that it's empty.
- Clean the chip: Gently wipe the chip with a lint-free cloth or a soft cotton swab. Be careful not to damage the chip.
- Reinsert the cartridge: After cleaning the chip, reinstall the cartridge and check if the issue resolves.
2. Reset the Ink Cartridge
- Sometimes, removing and reinserting the cartridge a few times can reset the ink system and allow the printer to recognize the full ink cartridges.
- Turn off the printer.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Wait about 5 minutes, then reinsert the cartridges.
- Turn the printer back on and check if the ink levels have updated.
3. Check for Printhead Issues
- Since you've already cleaned the printheads, make sure there are no ink blockages or clogs inside the printhead itself, especially around the ink nozzles.
- Run the printer’s cleaning cycle again to ensure the nozzles are properly cleaned. This can usually be done from the printer's control panel or via the printer software on your computer.
- If cleaning doesn't resolve it, try running a deep cleaning cycle (usually available in the printer settings under maintenance options).
4. Update Printer Firmware
- Printer firmware updates can often fix issues related to ink cartridges, including incorrect readings. To make sure your printer is up to date:
- Visit the HP support page for your printer model.
- Check if there's any available firmware update and follow the instructions to install it.
