The black ink has stopped coming out of my new print cartridge after printing around 10 sheets. The advice everywhere tells me to clean printheads but when I select 'Clean Printheads' with the HP Print and Scan Doctor, nothing happens; there's a brief loading bar and then the printer does nothing.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting print quality issues, and I am glad to assist you.

Run the clean print cartridges utility

Make sure that there is plain white paper in the input tray.

  • Open the Printer Toolbox.
  • Open HP Solution Center.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Print Settings.
  • Click Printer Toolbox. The Printer Toolbox dialog box displays.
  • Click the Device Services tab.
  • Click Clean the Print Cartridges.
  • Follow the instructions that display on the screen.
  • Examine the test page that prints. If the print quality of the page is good, click Done and stop here.
