Just replaced two empty and two non empty cartridges with Amazon cartridges? Can't print. I am pretty sure it is illegal for HP to insist on using very expensive HP cartridges.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

I have a OfficeJet Pro 8710 working with 3rd party ink from 123ink
I have been trying to get an understanding of how HP managed to create this ink cartridge mayhem.
First they silently release a firmware update in 2017 which disabled 3rd party ink cartridges - without advance warning or informing customers. Printers stopped working.
Since this was illegal in some/most countries HP had to revert this and release a new firmware update which allowed 3rd part ink - but some printers were sold with firmware blocking non-HP cartridges, and they had to be updated to accept 3rd party ink.
Since HP has 500+ models of DesignJet, BusinessInkjet, PageWide, OffieJet, Photosmart, ENVY, DeskJet..... this turned into a total nightmare. There is also regional locks on the HP ink cartridges for different territories/ countries.
Then there's the HP Smart Windows10 app which does it's own checking/shenanigans and disables certain features if you are using non-HP ink, such as scanning.
Try this..
(1) Uninstall HP Smart App.
(2) uninstall 8710 printer from Windows control panel
(3) Factory reset printer form the touchscreen
(4) Install the HP Basic Driver ("IT Professionals only" ) from
Do not install HP Smart, choose the "drivers printing and scanning" option when running the installer.
Installer may fail in the last step when it tries to open a webpage, but the drivers will be installed.
Would be very interesting to know if this works for you.
For scanning use the Windows 10 Scan app, you get 1200 dpi scans with this Basic Driver.
