HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a color laser jet pro MFP M180nw.  I purchase my toner direct through HP through the app.  Put in the new toner yesterday and now I get the "non HP chip detected" and the whole thing won't work.  This is bullsh!t when I bought three hundred dollars of toner direct from HP.  Anyone have a fix?

I have the same issue with my printer, a LaserJet Pro M280-M281. HP sent me a Magenta cartridge as part of a 3 pack that generates a "non HP chip detected" error when I attempt to install it. The other 2 cartridges were fine. I tried to call support, but they want me to sign up for a support plan before they'll talk to be about the defect cartridge they shipped to me. Not sure what my options are.

I just spent 2 hours chatting with an HP virtual agent and still no luck and we got disconnected, and I have 225 dollars worth of HP toner that doesn't work in the printer.  To say I am beyond frustrated is an understatement.  I put the old almost empty toner in and it works just fine.  I can see absolutely no difference in the toner cartridges at all, even the chips look identical.  Now trying to pry the chips out of the old cartridges and put them in the new ones.  I am at my wits end.

After spending all day working on this, I downloaded the hp print and scan doctor from the support page for my printer. It pointed me at the firmware for my printer, which I downloaded and re-flashed. Voila, I was able to install my new toner cartridge. I agree that the HP virtual agent is worthless. It kept trying to help me with ink jet cartridges when it knew I had a laser printer!

Hi @LissaOsborne ,

have you updated the firmware?
Can you confirm the solution from @BovinicusRex ?

Kind Regards
