Ink cartridge problem. One or more cartridges appear to be missing or damaged, install or replace the affected cartridges.

I have followed the instructions by replacing all the cartridges, not just the indicated damaged cartridge. Still not able to print on my HP photo. Smart 6520.

Any suggestions?

Hi @LorrieB8,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering a message about missing or damaged ink cartridges on your HP PhotoSmart 6520 even after replacing all the cartridges, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that each cartridge is properly installed. Remove and reinsert each cartridge, making sure they click securely into place.

Inspect Cartridges:

  • Look for any protective tape or seals that might still be on the cartridges. These need to be removed before installation.
  • Check the cartridges for any physical damage or leaks.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Carefully remove the cartridges and gently clean the gold contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. You can do this via the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure that you're using genuine HP cartridges, as non-genuine cartridges may not be recognized properly.

Run Printer Troubleshooter:

  • If you're connected to a computer, run the built-in printer troubleshooter. On Windows, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Printer.

Check for Software Issues:

  • Make sure your printer software is up to date. You can download the latest version from the HP support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
