Last week I decided to update my printer. I then changed my ink cartridge and received an "Older Generation Cartridge Error". Now I cannot print! I am a teacher and these cartridges were purchased by my school and now I cannot use them! Please FIX THIS! This is really shady of HP to do this for cartridges that are brand new.

I have the exact same issue.  Haven't been printing much for quite awhile and recently ran out of ink...btw, picked up a 2 pack of high yield cartridges when I bought the printer.  Finally replaced the original black cartridge with the exact same cartridge (yes, it is OEM HP) and it states it's an older generation cartridge and renders the printer useless.  Pretty crappy thing to do when the cartridges are expensive and a brand new one was just inserted EXACTLY like the one it replaced.  I can understand including a "chip" on cartridges to help with the subscription services, but to make the older ones useless is an extremely crappy business decision.  I like the printer, but if HP does this as a standard practice, I cannot support a company that does not allow a consumer to buy products in good faith that should not expire when brand new.  Looks like I may now have to buy another brand of printer and take my business elsewhere.  Very disappointing!

I think HP is making a concerted effort to rip off their customers by upgrading the printer firmware so you cannot replace the ink cartridges in your printer because of the "Older Generation Cartridge Error", even though the cartridges are newer than the printer.  They are even nasty enough to make sure you buy new cartridges which you can no longer use rather than telling you that printer cartridges are no longer available for your printer and they would like you to buy a new one.  Thankfully, I searched around until I found a note on how to downgrade the firmware in my printer to a previous version and now all of the new cartridges work fine!

Shame on you HP!
