Hi @David8210,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "Ink System Failure" error on your HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer could be caused by several issues, such as cartridge compatibility, incorrect installation, or problems with the printer's internal components. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this:

1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Using third-party or incompatible cartridges can trigger ink system errors.

2. Reseat the Cartridges

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  3. Remove all ink cartridges carefully.
  4. Check for any protective tape left on the cartridges (do not remove the copper contacts or nozzles).
  5. Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring each clicks into place.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the cartridges.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts in the printer.
  4. Let them dry for a few minutes, then reinstall the cartridges.

4. Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

5. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Outdated firmware may cause cartridge-related errors. Update the firmware through the HP Smart app or the HP website.

6. Run the Printer Diagnostic Tool HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website.
  • Use the tool to detect and fix cartridge-related issues.

7. Check Ink System Components

  • If ink levels fluctuate, check for air bubbles or leaks in the ink delivery system.
  • If your printer uses an ink pump system, it might need cleaning or servicing.

8. Perform a Semi-Full Reset

  • If the issue persists, a semi-full reset can clear the printer's memory:
    1. With the printer turned on, press the Back button 4 times until the Support Menu appears.
    2. Navigate to Reset Menu > Semi-Full Reset.
    3. The printer will restart. Reconfigure the settings as needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
