I am very disappointed for sneaking this firmware update in that has caused our full-price genuine HP ink cartridges to be unusable! I was printing this weekend and got a low ink warning on the printer. Since I had a multi-pack of black ink in my closet, I opened it and installed. Of course, about 2 hours later, I discovered that not amount of reinstalling the cartridge, restarting or unplugging the printer, or cleaning the print heads would get rid of the "old generation ink cartridge warning". After resorting to searching the web, I found that the firmware update from HP caused all cartridges with an older than present date to be unusable! Since the cartridge I replaced was dated 2020 and the new one was 2021, it makes no sense that it wouldn't work! They are identical!! I am very upset about HP doing something so underhanded! It's not enough that we bought an HP printer and stocked up on HP ink!! A two pack of HP black 952XL is $89. I have owned HP printers for over 20 years and bought them for my 3 children that took them to college and have one I bought for my classroom.
