HP Photosmart D-110A
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I just got a used HP Photosmart D-110A inkjet printer. Product # CN731A ,  / Model # D-110a

I read in the D110 series Manual, that the printer has option to use just a single black ink cartridge, if you'd like. But that you have to set it to 'or 'off' to work. Right now, there's a blck cartridge w/ ink, & an old empty color cartrdige in it. It''s inot printing anything out when it finishes 'print'',  Also, I haven't seen anything on the printer about choosing the 'black only' print option.

Dows anyone know if this model has such an option or not?

THanks so very much!

Welcome to the HP Community.

The printer hardware supports the black only option.

Remove the empty cartridge.

That said, the bigger obstacle to using the printer is that there is not any full driver printer software.

Instead you are directed to install and use the Windows print drivers.

Thanks so much- yes, the fact that we had to use a Windows driver that might not have even been correct one (!), is likely the reason the ‘ink back-up’ option isn’t working for us. When we took out the spent color cartridge, just black one left in, the printer gave mssg. that there was a ‘cartridge problem’ with no way to continue with anything til we put back the spent cartridge!

The ‘good’ news is, the Windows driver we picked from the list , the closest thing , was for a ‘ deskjet  D-series’ !!! Crazy, I know as this is a ‘photosmart 110a-Dseries’ …. but, the computer ( windows7) is talking to the printer at least, were able to scan doc. to the computer. Soon as we get our ink, we’ll check out printing & copying!!!
yes, was real frustrating trying to find the driver software ‘out there’ that wasn’t ‘out there’!!!
maybe our luck with this thing will continue!!

Thank you so, for your fabulous info.!!!
the things I now know to check for in advance- next time!!!😂🤣😁
